I was skeptical when unboxing, but after reviewing several other similar higher brand models for about two to three times the cost, I decided to go middle of the road in price based on what I wanted them for, to compliment more commercial style heavier duty ones that I already own. I am satisfied and not disappointed. Just a heads-up, they do not come with batteries, but do not let that discourage you. Their quality makes up for the sacrifice of a pack of rechargeable batteries for $12.00. When shopping for backup radios or those to give your kids and family to back up more expensive ones that are more complicated, I definitely recommend these. The Squelch privacy tones (CTSS) are easy to set as well as the weather channels (Note: there are no Digital Privacy tones, only CTSS). Very functional, and already tested at a 1/4 of a mile with zero static in an urban setting at a walking park to a house. If you are looking for high performance with complex settings and adjustments, these are not the radio for you, but like I said earlier, if you are looking for simple addition to give out to kids, family while on an outing or a function, you will be happy. Like I tell people, do not order $20-50 radios expecting "Rockstar" in a handheld radio, and then negatively rate what you paid for, be fair. If you want long range commercial performance then reevaluate what you need them for, what you expect and then what you can afford to spend. No complaints here and very happy with these.You can use these with ONN walkie talkies which was exactly what I neededUsed these in the open woods and had constant static and cutting in and out. Although the operating issues, the battery life was amaing and they did not die once. I was not in favor of the headset piece as it wouldn't recieve some transmissions at times. I wouldn't use these for hunting or anything for emergencies. Would give to kids to play with.These are exactly what I needed! I originally bought these to add to my emergency preparation kit. They are the perfect size and have a great range.Standard Walkie-talkie works fine. I bought this for VOX. It is simply not-functional in the VOX mode. Some signals come through. The majority do not. I tried different settings and nothing seemed to help. Do not buy if you need VOXThey're great walkie, these just don't come with rechargeable batteries. Though it supports it and it has a port to charge them.I have a large property without good cell phone coverage these work perfectly to communicate with my husband while he is out working there amazing very clear and really easy to useThese are perfect for communicating throughout the house. I’d suggest buying rechargeable batteries as they eat up regular ones pretty quickly
