Easy to use once its set up a bit, and more so when programmed good. Little confusion with what settings you can/can't use on CHIRP with this radio - but its no fault of program or radio - just a "user error" on my part as HAM/etc radio is kinda a new hobby im picking up on the cheap..I have been listening to county EMS dispatching which is non trunked radio like the Police radios are.Downsides - im in small county with very few active channels to tune into that are able to be tuned in via this radio. Its no fault of the radio, just again "user" not paying enough attention to what is in use in my county first XDPros - lots of useful info is a google search awayeasy to use once programmed, easy to listen to local FM radio stations (like your car stereo station's) with a button press.. (didnt know that was a feature, but it is)Its small.. like really small with the larger battery it barely is bigger then a 12oz pop can. not counting the antenna. The thicker antenna that came with kit is longer then entire radio and large battery too, and the thinner antenna is like 2x as long.Feels solid - not like plastic toy - despite looking kinda toy like plastic..Cons - if you do not know what your doing to program it, you could brick it and it wont work so make sure to make a copy of the data off radio before making changes..There are 2 little plastic nubs at the bottom of the radio that Clip into the batteries when they are attached to hold the bottom of the battery to the "case" of the radio.. they are very fragile plastic nubs.. easily broken if the large battery is in place.. does not affect the the electrical connection of the radio to battery, but without the belt clip pressing on the large battery - there is a risk of large battery bending/breaking away from the radio.. if too much force was applied in the right direction..If this radio wasnt so cheap, id probably consider that a bigger issue.. but honestly its not that big of a deal if your stuffing it into a decent radio carrier anyway..Final statement - I am unsure of its quality via transmission - mostly because you need a license to transmit on the frequencies - its kinda easy to get a license - but I do not have one "yet" and even if I did - not like there is allot of traffic on the frequency this picks up and can transmit on - besides EMS dispatch for my county. I do plan to buy some better gear eventually, something with a bit more coverage of stuff that is in use in my area - I also plan to acquire a license sooner or later - probably after I get little better radio.So would I buy another? yeah, maybe not another whole kit - but another radio, or two even sure.. Its a neat bit of tech for low cost of entry- and considering how fun it was as a kid to play with toy 2-way radios.. this only expands on that fun.. Bonus the kit is worth buying, just for all the extras you get that would double the price if bought all as single items.
